PAULO FREIRE AND THE ETHICAL POLITICAL COMMITMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION

Abstract

This article, resulting from a theoretical and bibliographic study, presents a contextual and updated rereading of the text A propósito de uma administração (About an administration), written by Paulo Freire in 1961, in which the author analyzes the administrative actions of that period rector, João Alfredo Gonçalves da Costa Lima, in his first eighteen months as a rector. This article maintains that the point of view taken by Freire about the analyzed administration was conditioned, theoretically, by the form that he comprehended the regional and national needs of that beginning of decade, which he had defended in his theses of 1959, Educação e atualidade brasileira (Education and Brazilian actuality), as well as by the political injunctions of that contradictory moment in the history of Brazilian Northwest and Brazil.
