Abstract

This article intends to analyze a part of an original manuscript, written in 1935 by a teacher from a Portuguese primary school, with the purpose of investigating the problems regarding the use of dictation and writing in the teaching of Mother Language, its methodologies and practices, as well as the means and resources used in the teaching and learning process. According the chosen methodology (historical and hermeneutical) in this research we have identified the following set of categories which we wanted to be the support of the analysis that we perform: composition, dictation, methodologies, strategies, tools and educational resources. The main conclusions of this study show that teaching practice was supported by an innovative vision and current pedagogy, revealing a considerable proximity to the authors and currents linked to the New School.
