LUTHERAN PRIVATE SCHOOLS FROM SERRA DOS TAPES, IN THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL (1938 TO 1971): THE ASPECTS OF A MATERIAL CULTURE

Abstract

The present paper brings as subject matter the material culture of four Lutheran educational institutions in the Southern region of Serra dos Tapes, state of Rio Grande do Sul, between 1938 and 1971. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the features of the educational culture of these schools, which had particular qualities that, once deriving from a historical process of German and Pomeranian colonization, suffered the patriotic intervention of the nationalized educational system, bearing the ethnicity marks of the ethnic group which attended them. Research methodology counts on the use of oral history and document analysis. Along the studies it has been noticed that the school culture of these institutions is unique, with multiple grades which appreciated religious valuation, mathematics, reading, writing and civic orientation, aiming at basic education in order for the student to act as a peasant farmer along with their family.
