THE USE OF THE SPANISH HISTORY TEXTBOOK IN BACHILLERATO: IN THE CLASSROOM AND AT HOME

Abstract

The use of the textbook by teachers and students is a research path underdeveloped. In this article, I address this issue from the perspective of the students, as living testimonies, and the textbook of History of Spain that they used as evidence around which they build their recollections. The personal notes written by students that are found in their books - underlined, diagrams, symbols, synthesis, etc. -, allow us to identify and verify the tasks performed by their users; this work done by the students, which begun in the classroom and continued at home, is one of the areas of the use of the textbooks less investigated. Moreover, the comparison between the textbook and the notes taken by the students makes us understand better which is the real role of the textbook. Finally, the assessment of the positive and negative features of manuals and notes, together with the preferences of the students for one or the other, provides us with a very valuable information to better understand, from the viewpoint of one of the agents, the students, the present and the future of both resources.
