Redenção: a new tomato cultivar for industry resistant to tospovirus and geminivirus

Redenção is a tomato cultivar for processing, resistant to tospovirus and geminivirus. It is a result of a six cycle selection from the cross between access LA 3473 and the cv. Viradoro. The access LA 3473 has the gene TY-1 that confers tolerance to the Tomato yellow leaf curly virus (TYLCV). The cultivar Viradoro is a cultivar with IPA-5 background and has the Sw-5 gene that confers resistance to tospovirus. Redenção was selected using the bulk and pedigree selection method. It has elongated fruits, red intense color, firm and uniform, with an average weight of 110 g. Under field exposition showed an average yield of 88.9 t/ha equivalent to local hybrids and commercial cultivars. The authors expect that this new cultivar consolidate the revitalization of the tomato processing chain in the Sub medium São Francisco River Region which is considered, due to the climatic conditions, one of the most proper areas for tomato cultivation in Brazil.
