Meeting of Knowledges: toward an anti-racist and multi-epistemic university

Abstract

The article discusses the Project Meeting of Knowledges, developed by the Institute of Inclusion in Higher Education and Research and hosted in the University of Brasília since the year 2010. It can be described as a movement of ethnic and racial inclusion and of decolonization of the Eurocentric foundations of the curriculum of our universities. The main focus of the Meeting of Knowledges is to bring masters (male and female) of knowledges of our traditional communities (Indigenous, Afro-Brazilian, Maroons, among others) to act as visiting or temporary lecturers, regardless of the fact that they have no formal schooling. Given the fact that the masters are also Black and Indigenous persons, their presence in the role of academic authority, although formed on the basis of non-Eurocentric epistemic systems, make a substantial contribution to confront the double face of the constitutive racism of our academic institutions: phenotypical and ethnic racism, and epistemic racism.
