This paper presents an analysis concerning the possible effects of the opportunistic behavior and contract breakdowns in the South Brazilian Tobacco Chain. The study was based on Transaction Cost Economics and Interorganizational Relationships work. The results of this investigation show the importance of building up partnerships based on trust and cooperation connected to a chain concerning its organization and global performance.
