Gender, health and prison: possible maternities in the prison context

Abstract

This report consists of the performance of a intern in a penitentiary in the south of the country, in the period that corresponded to the last year of the Psychology course. The objective of the internship was focused on comprehensive care to women’s health in the context of deprivation of liberty in a prison. As this is an article derived from reflections on internship, we will work here with the experience report of the activities carried out, which were analyzed according to the propositions of the Discourse Analysis of the Bakhtin Circle. There were two distinct groups, one of which was a group of women in the gestation period, whose meetings took place with an interdisciplinary team, and another group of women in the nursery area of the prison with their children. The analysis of the meetings held allowed us to understand the fragmentation of women’s identity crossed by the logic of the prison context: punishing to rehabilitate.
