Isozyme characterization of Oidium species

Isolates of Oidium spp. obtained from eucalyptus (Eucalyptus urophylla), Rosa sp, Dhalia sp., common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and Bixa orellana were compared by isozyme analysis on starch gel electrophoresis. Among 19 enzymes tested, acid phosphatase, malic enzyme, alpha-esterase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, phosphoglucose isomerase, hexokinase, and malate dehydrogenase showed reproducible and distinct isozyme banding patterns. Based on isozyme analysis, the Oidium isolate from eucalypt showed identical profiles to that of rose and, therefore, was identified as anamorphs of Sphaerotheca pannosa.
