Stress level evaluation of technicians from the health area

The objective of the study was to evaluate the stress level of the health area technicians from Policlínica Naval Nossa Senhora da Glória, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Participated 34 technicians of diverse sectors, 29 military and 5 civilians, 28 women and 6 men. A questionnaire elaborated by the authors and the Lipp's Stress Symptoms Inventory for Adults were used. According to these data, 82.3% were stressed, 76.9% in the resistance and 23.0% in the almost-exhaustion phase, with predominance of psychological symptoms (69.2%), 83.0% of the women and 66.6% of men were stressed. Maybe the these professionals' stress is associated to the public contact, that demands not only the technical operations, but also ability to deal to the others' suffering, bureaucratic and, many times, military activities. Studies involving bigger samples and implementation of stress control programs are suggested in order to improve life quality.
