TiO2 heterogeneous photocatalysis in secondary wastewater treatment

The results of wastewater anaerobic-aerobic reactor effluent disinfected with heterogeneous photocatalysis using titanium dioxide fixed in a glass plate and solar radiation are presented in this work. The anaerobic-aerobic reactor has a granular activated carbon expanded bed and it receives the wastewater collected in the Campus of São Paulo University at São Carlos-SP, Brazil, and from the surrounding neighborhood of the campus. The assays were conducted in batch with recirculation time of 4 hours. The flow rate used was of 15, 22.5 and 30 L/h. The removal of organic matter (COD and TOC) and inactivation of total coliforms, E. coli, Clostridium perfringens and coliphages was evaluated.
