BLACK MOVEMENTS IN BRAZIL AND THE SCENARIOS OF THE STRUGGLE FOR EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

The arrival of Africans in Brazil occurred in a tragic and distressing way, as men and women were subjected to slavery. Brazil spent more time enslaving Africans and their descendants than guaranteeing “freedom”. In this context, this article seeks to reflect on the struggles of black people against eugenics in Brazil, for freedom and education. The study presents a qualitative approach and seeks to understand the historical facts in their times and spaces, based on bibliographic and documentary research. The data show that, even with the legal obligation to work on African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture in basic education, the black population fighting movements for rights are still necessary.
