UNIVERSITY AND EDUCATION IN THE NEOLIBERAL CONTEXT

ABSTRACT

The present essay discusses, anchored in bibliographical research, the relation between university and education in the neoliberal context. It begins with a brief diagnosis of the current era, showing some aspects of the destructive effect of neoliberalism in the social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. Next, it deals with such effects specifically in the educational field, showing how the liberal economic logic takes over education, converting schools and universities into companies focused almost exclusively on competition, efficiency, and profitability. Lastly, based on the conviction that the powerful force of neoliberalism is not insurmountable, the essay seeks to reflect on some possible forms of resistance, signalling the achievement of a transformed philosophy of education.
