UNVEILING ARBITRARY FORMS OF DOMINATION: THE SOCIOLOGICAL WORK OF PIERRE BOURDIEU

ABSTRACT

The text initially seeks to follow the trajectory of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (1930–2002) over more than four decades, highlighting his activities as a researcher and as an “agitprop” (“professional agitator”). In a second moment, it is dedicated to narrating my experience of working with the theoretical assumptions developed by the author in some fields of knowledge. It concludes by emphasizing that the reading and use of Bourdieu, twenty years after his death, remains indispensable in the sense of denaturalizing the established mechanisms of concealment of the relationships that lead to social divisions.
