The Holy See concordat proposal and the debate at the Chamber of Representatives

The agreement the Holy See proposes to Brazil, that is, the concordat signed at the Vatican by the Ministry of External Relations on behalf of the Federal Executive Authority, is submitted to the National Congress at the time this paper is written. Its repercussions and problems show how much, if passed, it violates the principle of a laic State, provided for by the Brazilian Constitution. This text discusses some aspects of the harassed laic State, the involvement of the academic field and civil society initiatives to defend the Constitution. It presents and analyzes the heated discussions on the concordat at the Chamber of Representatives and points out the mains controversies.
