Presentation - Rural education in comparative perspective: schooling policies, training experiences and teaching work (Brazil and Mexico, 20th Century)

ABSTRACT

This article presents the main aspects of the research works that make up the dossier “Rural education in a comparative perspective: schooling policies, training experiences and teaching work (Brazil and Mexico, 20th century)”. In this sense, what we present are the results of investigations around the project developed in a network “Training and Work of Rural Teachers and Teachers in Brazil: RS, PR, SP, MG, RJ, MS, MT, MA, PE, PI, SE , PB, RO (40’s to 70’s of the 20th century)”, as well as works developed in this same perspective, in Mexico. The choice of the two countries is associated with their role as centers of experimentation of new policies and initiatives aimed at expanding access to formal education in the Latin American subcontinent from the second half of the 20th century onwards. The result reveals the incongruities of rural schooling, which to a certain extent was guided by international agreements commanded by the United States, as well as constituted as a result of singular and local experiences.
