The value of parental education practices: vision of professionals

Abstract

With the reduction of the availability of community support and the traditional extended family, on the one hand, and the difficulties associated with current problems on the other, Parental Education (PE) arises as an emerging field, fundamental for responding to problems that parents currently face in the education of their children. This article associates the training of professionals in this field, with the importance they attribute to their practices. The sample of this study is constituted by 180 professionals of this area. Participants were questioned about their training through the questionnaire "Characterization of Professionals / Dynamizers of Parental Education Programs", and about the importance attributed to quality practices, using the questionnaire "Skills for working with parents". The results show that advanced level training is a relevant factor in the valuation of PE practices by professionals, which implies the need for a contingent response from higher education institutions. The results are analyzed and discussed, indicating their relevance to the intervention in the area.
