Personal files of scientists and conservationists: the experience of the instituto nacional da mata atlântica (INMA)

ABSTRACT

This article presents some results of the new research line of the Instituto Nacional da Mata Atlântica (INMA), referring to files of scientists and conservationists. Among the pioneers of science and conservation of the Atlantic Forest are: Augusto Ruschi, Alvaro Aguirre, Adelmar Coimbra-Filho, and Ibsen Câmara, whose documents are being archived at INMA. By transforming their memories into cultural and educational heritage, it is intended to reinforce or create social identities connected to environmentally responsible discourses. Considering the little that remains of this biome, it becomes strategic to maintain and organize records of its recent past, expanding and qualifying public access to these sources.
