The presence of the Feminist Economics in Brazilian Economic Science: evaluation of academic production in the field between 1990 and 2015

Abstract

Feminist criticism of economics, represented by Feminist Economics, is a promising field of discussion in the world academic environment and its manifestations in Brazil still seem incipient. With the aim of verifying its effective insertion in the scientific production of the country, this essay analyzes the Brazilian journals that have the best evaluations in the field of Economics, totaling more than 40 thousand articles, in order to identify the efforts that converge to the Feminist Economics in the period between 1990 and 2015. As a result, within the narrow research field that places women as object of research in Economics, works focusing on Feminist Economics are even more restricted, representing 0.23% of publications evaluated. This value, even small, may be overestimated, given the profile of the authors and the proximity of the discipline to feminist criticism in other areas of thought.
