Unveiling disinformation: some determinations and a concept proposal

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To carry out theoretical approximations regarding disinformation in view of its relations with capitalism.

Methodology:

It is an exploratory research having bibliographical research as its main instrument, and dialectical materialism as its epistemological compass. The research conducts a theoretical investigation that aims to contribute to a general understanding of disinformation, applying a materialist view that is based on Marxist and Bakhtinian theories, in addition to the contributions of studies by Information Science authors such as Capurro, Buckland and Dantas. It deals with issues involving bourgeois domination strategies, especially in a discursive way through the creation of consensus through the perpetuation of ideologies materialized in discursive genres.

Results:

Brings basic determinations for understanding disinformation involving its content and form of action; points out three levels of circulation in the dimensions of infrastructure and superstructure, in addition to listing typologies and dimensions of manifestation, proposing its conceptualization as a material phenomenon.

Conclusions:

Combating disinformation goes far beyond combating false information and it requires more complex theoretical and practical articulations that involve the functioning of society as a whole.
