Safety and education during COVID-19: prevalence, associated factors and reopening plans of the School of Nursing

Abstract

Objective

to analyze the prevalence and factors associated with COVID-19 screening and propose the necessary strategies for the reopening of university Nursing Schools to face-to-face classes.

Methods

aa cross-sectional study was designed from the baseline of a longitudinal Internet-based survey of a Brazilian School of Nursing. With the ordinal outcome (COVID-19 operational classification), data analysis was conducted using a multinomial regression model

Results

a total of 498 participants were included in the analysis and revealed 67.27% suspected and 11.65% confirmed cases of COVID-19. Wearing masks, public transportation, and being part of frontline healthcare workers were statistically associated with a positive history for COVID-19.

Conclusion

plans to reopen Nursing Schools must integrate the use of personal protective equipment, public transportation, and COVID-19 screening into education.
