Musculoskeletal symptomatology and quality of life of patients with work-related musculoskeletal disorders

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To analyze, based on an occupational profile, aspects of musculoskeletal symptoms and quality of life (QoL) of workers reported as having work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the state of Sergipe.

Methods:

The research was carried out between July/2013 and July/2014 and used the Nordic Musculoskeletal and SF-36 questionnaires in 56 volunteers.

Results:

We observed a greater severity of symptoms in the region of the shoulders and neck, and QoL low average in all areas, with significant relationship between sex and symptoms in the upper limbs, and between mental and physical components of QoL and symptomatology of shoulders and fists.

Final Thoughts:

This research had methodological limitations related to the small number of individuals in the sample. However, it was still possible to achieve the goals through the analysis of occupational profile, musculoskeletal symptoms and QoL of workers flagged as bearers of MSDs in state of Sergipe. MSD patients' QoL is reduced, though its relationship with the symptoms of the disease needs to be investigated further.
