Diálogos abertos: Cândido Portinari, Mino Cerezo Barredo e Cláudio Pastro em Batatais

ABSTRACT

The political and social contexts that allowed the production of three important collections of sacred art for the city of Batatais, in the state of São Paulo, between 1950 and 2010, will be examined in this article through arguments of the authors themselves: Cândido Portinari (1903-1962), Maximino Cerezo Barredo (1932) and Claudio Pastro (1948-2016). In different moments, each in his own way, they portrayed humankind and the faith of their time, in critical and singular dialogues with history - and, precisely for this reason, created meaningful documents to understand the trajectory of humanity and of Catholic religious culture in the second half of the 20th century.
