Criadouros de Aedes aegypti encontrados em alguns bairros da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil, em 1984-85

Data on the breeding sites of Aedes aegypti were gathered during a survey of the premise index in some districts of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Some of these districts were divided in two areas, taking into consideration the topography as well as the economic situation of the population. These two factors determined to a great extent the distribution of the containers where the larvae were found. At the residential districts of higher income the breeding-places were mostly jars, usually containing plants. At the lower income districts larvae were found usually in great storage deposits of water, at the slopes and hills. Disposable material is an important breeding site of the midlle class districts, were they constitute 30% of the breeding-places. The authors make comments on the findings and also some recommendations, concluding that the control of A. aegypti in Rio de Janeiro is possible and depends only on a political decision.
