UTIUZATION OF AMMONIAZED AGROINDUSTRIAL RESIDUES WIT STEERS IN SEMI-CONFINAMENT

SUMMARY The experiment was carried out from 20th of July to 4th of October 1990 to evaluate the supplementary feeding effect of ammoniated agroindustrial residues in steers. The agroindustrial residues were originated from the industrial processess of cleaning and drying rice, com, soybean and sorghum grains which were treated by applying on a 3.0% (dry matter basis) of anhydrous ammonia. A total of 17 steers were distributed in three groups corresponding to the following treatments: Treatment 1 - grazing on improved native pasture; Treatment 2 -grazing on improved native pasture plus 3.0kg/head/day of ammoniated residues; Treatment 3 - grazing on improved native pasture plus 6.0kg/head/day of ammoniated residues. The livewheigt gain/day was 517.54g; 634.21 g and 982.24g, for treatments 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The regression analysis of liveweight gain, based on kg of supplement per 100kg liveweight (RPSPV), indicates that there is an increase of 196.86g/day for every increased of 1kg of suppiement per 100kg liveweight. The results indicate that amonia treatment of these agroindustrial residues can be used as a viable altemative for suppiementing steers during critical periods of pasture growth.
