Evaluation of renal profile induced by aflatoxicosis in dogs: determination of plasma levels of urea and creatinine and urine density

The objective of the present work was to evaluate plasma levels of urea and creatinine and urine density in dogs using experimentally induced aflatoxicosis. Fourteen adult mongrel dogs (7 males and 7 females), weighing 6.7 ± l.96kg were treated with oral aflatoxin (67/µg/kg/day) during 9 days. Three control blood and urine samples were collected before the begining of experimental trial. Then starting on the 5th day of treatment, another 4 samples were collected with 5 day intervals. The results showed that aflatoxin at the dosage used produced clinical signs of intoxication, which later were confïrmed by histopathology. However, no alteration in the renal profile could be detected by standard clinical pathology.
