A research was undertaken to determine the ideal time for vaccination of foals against equine herpesvirus type 1 under regional conditions. The protocols normally utilized are those from other countries. Sixty-one foals born from vaccinated mares against equine herpesvirus type 1 were utilized. The ideal time for vaccination taken in consideration the results obtained was around two months of age. These statements are based on the low antibody titers observed, probably not enough to protec horses from a field exposure.
