RABBITEYE BLUEBERRY CV. POWDER BLUE FRUIT BEHAVIOUR UNDER COLD STORAGE

SUMMARY The aim of this work was to observe the effect of temperature ( 0°C, 4°C and normal air) and PVC (without, tighted and with holes) on blueberry cv. Powder Blue storage. Ripe fruits were picked in January 1993 and placed in plastic trays. Fruits were kept in cold rooms at Food Science and Technology Departament - FAEM/UFPEL during 21 days + 2 days of marketing simulation. The storage fruit weight loss was higher at normal air temperature followed by 0°C and 4°C. This may be due to the absence of fruit precooling. The PVC film was efficient on weight loss reduction. At 4°C temperature, the total soluble solids content, at the end of storage time was lower than that of fruit stored at 0°C and normal air temperature. The influence of PVC film on total soluble solids content was higher for fruits at normal air temperature where those without PVC film showed higher total soluble solids content than those wrth PVC film. The total soluble solids/total titrable acidity ratio was higher for fruits at 0°C. There wasn't any decay for fruits at 0°C and 4°C and at normal air temperature. The decay incidence happened mainly in fruits whithout PVC film.
