SUMMARY The authors presented a bibliographic review of animal diabetes mellitus. This systemic disease involves an heterogenic group of metabolic diseases and causes many different diseases. The diagnosis from diabetes mellitus were incomun in veterinary medicine and it was described in dogs and cats but it is present in different species. The present review related the clinical and laboratorial diagnosis and the treatment. The rapid, intermedium and slow actions from insulin were related. Complications of the drugs also were related.
