Characterization of Female Leadership in Military Contexts: Reflections from the Experiences of Second Lieutenants during their Command Phase

Abstract

This article presents the results of a study of the leadership exercised by female second lieutenants at the “General José María Córdova” Military School for Cadets in Bogotá, Colombia. It shows that qualities such as intelligence, knowledge and training are essential for the recognition of a woman leader in the military, as well as responsibility and discipline. The analysis of the leadership styles adopted by the second lieutenants found the important influence that the military context had on the leadership model that they exercise.
