SOCIAL NETWORKS AND TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: NEW TRAINING SPACES

Abstract

As the digitalization of society advances, there is growing consensus on the need for a broad view of teacher professional development. Digital social networks enable teachers to engage in meaningful relationships with each other, generating social learning when sharing experiences, ideas, concepts and considerations. For active teachers, learning through social media becomes a process that is embedded in their work and continues outside of school hours. In the scenario of choice and freedom provided by networks, new informal leaderships emerge among teachers as well as horizontal leaderships based on trust, recognition and appreciation of the other based on the practicality or usefulness of the teaching materials, proposals and shared ideas.
