The work considers librarian reading for puposes of indexing, and using Discourse Analysis concepts places the librarian within the social context of reading. Comparing texts on the theory of inderfing (the librarian’s method for reading) with keywords and subject heading which result from said reading these emerges the subjectivity of the reader. It is concluded that the processes which affect the librarian’s reading in his/her indexing, togheter with the methodology supporting it makes such reading more fruitful and productive of representations of texts in databases.
