This work has the aim to discuss the characteristics of information sciense. At first, information sciense object is analyzed through the points of view of Ranganathan, Borko, Werzig, Urdaneta, Hwang e Le Coadic. Then, the model of classical science, the new mode of knowledge production and the possibility of application of this knowledge in information science are also points that were examined throughout this work. We do think that the second mode is more suited to explain information science for its society relation and its characteristics of objetictivity, dynamism, interdisciplinarity and recursivity.
