The present article describes and analyzes the process of formation and development of Lucas do Rio Verde Furniture Manufacturing Region through a biographical and historical study of a set of small and medium-sized companies who had searched, through partnership and associative action, a strategy of survival and growth, in a region that had no industrial tradition. The paper aimed at tracing the historical line of these organizations, describing its processes of organizational change and its strategies of adaptation to a competitive environment. The conclusion shows the contribution of the furniture manufacturing industries to the process of local and regional development and the experiences of the constituent companies of the region who had oscillated between moments of crisis and negative impact in its economic results and moments of advance in the relation with the market, especially with respect to a better strategical positioning of these organizations.
