Changes in the way of live on the contemporary metropolis: new speeches, old problems

This paper was developed within the scope of research on the informal housing market in Salvador and aims to understand the changes in the forms of housing, particularly the poorest ones, that have occurred in large Brazilian cities. We will address the issue of structuring the living space for rich and poor, caused by the implementation of post-Fordist production method. Then we will address the issue of commercialization of living space for the poor, the slums and squatter settlements that have become commodities in an informal submarket. We will see how this type of transaction settled in cities in Latin America and Brazil, highlighting the occurrence of this phenomenon in major Brazilian cities, including São Paulo and Salvador. And finally, we will tackle the resumption of housing provision programs in Salvador. We will made a few remarks about housing policy in recent decades and the meaning of new programs to build a more just and democratic city.
