ORGANIZATIONAL IMAGES OF SCHOOL AND QUALITIES IN EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

In this paper, in the wake of other authors, it is assumed that underlying any conception of quality (and the instruments for its assessment) is a certain conception of organization. Starting from a selection of organizational images proposed by Gareth Morgan (2006), and adopting an essayistic register, a heuristic exercise is developed through which an attempt is made to dialogue with the polyphonic nature of the concept of quality. It is concluded that quality in education, in its entirety, is not apprehensible by the isolated mobilization of any of the organizational images explored. Rather, it is argued that, in order to capture quality in all its semantic arc, the combined contribution of the different “ways of seeing” provided by each of the organizational images is imperative.
