Polyembryony and characterization of fruits of the 'swingle' citrumelo and Poncirus trifoliata

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the polyembryony and characterize the fruits of the 'Swingle' citrumelo and Poncirus trifoliata rootstocks. The experiment was conducted at the Universidade Federal de Lavras. Concerning a 100 fruits ripening per rootstock at three plants were colletes at randon. The polyembryony percentage in 'Swingle' citrumelo and Poncirus trifoliata rootstocks was of 48.1% and 31.5% and embryos number per seeds of 1.6 and 1.4, respectively. The fruit weight was correlated with the follow characterizes: fruit length and diameter, vigorous and no vigorous seed, seed weight and germination percentage, polyembryony rate and number the embryos per seed. A positive correlation was obtained among the fruit weight with fruit length and diameter and number no vigorous seed for 'Swingle' citrumelo and positive correlation among the fruit weight with fruit length and diameter, number vigorous seed, seed weight and germination percentage for Poncirus trifoliata.
