Dithiocarbamates for the control of sweet orange scab

In order to study the efficiency of dithiocarbamate compounds on the control of sweet orange scab (Elsinoe australis Bitan. & Jenkins) two spraying tests were made in a Pêra orange planting at the Limeira Experiment Station. The following fungicides were compared in one and two applications after the blossoms had fallen: Bordeaux mixture (6-6-100), Perenox at 0.8%, and Rhodiazinc (Ziram) at 0.4%. When applied once Perenox was more effective and Rhodiazinc less so than Bordeaux mixture. With two applications the results were very good and similar for the three fungicides. As dithiocarbamate compounds are also very good miticides and do not break the biological balance in citrus orchards it is advisable to use these fungicides for the control of sweet orange scab.
