Stomata leaflet morphology of peanut, cultivars tatu and SO-909

The variability in the stomata of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L) were studied in two cultivars with different responses to some of the peanut foliar diseases. The results of analysis showed four types of stomata, namely anomocytic, anisocytic, diacytic, and laterocyclic; in addition, the geminate stomata was also found. The highest frequencies were observed for the laterocyclics. The diacytic type has not been cited in the literature, either in the Leguminosaea family or in the genus Arachis. Differences between cultivars as the stomata width and index might produce different peanut cultivars responses to foliar fungal diseases.
