Effects of harvesting practices and gin machinery on the technological properties of cotton fibers and yarn

Effects of harvesting practices and gin machinery on the properties of cotton fibers and yarn were studied for three commercial varieties: IAC 13-1, IAC RM3, and IAC RM4 SM5. There was no difference in the majority of technological properties, between hand-picked cotton and machine-picked cotton. However, machine-picked cotton had better fiber length in Paranapanema-SP and better Micronaire in Araras-SP. Roller gin was better than saw gin for all technological cotton fiber properties and yarn, independent of harvesting processes.
