Urea absorption by coffee leaves

Four trials were: carried out to study the absorption of urea by coffee leaves sprayed with 2.5% solutions made from commercial and p.a, chemicals. Young plants growing in nutrient solutions did not absorb urea through the leaves, but plants growing in sand culture or in the field, that showed symptoms of nitrogen deficiency, did absorb this element from urea as shown by the results from leaf analysis made prior and after the treatments. However, the plants potted in sand recovered the normal green color, whereas the treated plants in the field did not do so. Sprayings made with solutions of commercial urea at the indicated concentration induced some injury to the coffee leaves, as it can be seen from plate 1.
