Behavior of early and median cycle garlic cultivars in the Campinas area

A comparison of the production of early and median cycle garlic (Allium sativum L.) varieties was made at Centro Experimental de Campinas, SP. Median cycle cultivars (155 to 171 days from planting to harvesting) gave higher total yield and produced higher size bulbs than early ones (128 to 141 days). The best results were obtained with the cultivars Cateto Ponte Seca I-2102; Amarante I-3935; Lavínia I-1632 and Lavínia I-3208, which produced more than 1 kg/m². Among the early cultivars the more productive was Cajuru I-2315 with 0,6 kg/m². With regard to quality almost all of them gave 100% of perfect bulbs, except Cateto Roxo I-99 and Sergipe I-3820 which gave 4% and 3% of imperfect bulbs, respectively.
