SUMMARY
Studies were made on the root system of two potato varieties growing on a type of red soil ("terra-roxa-misturada") at the E. E. Theodureto de Camargo, Campinas.
It was observed that the Herkol variety presents 80 per cent of the roots in the upper 10 cm layer of soil, and Eigenheimer, 75 per cent.
The depth reached by the roots was 110 cm and 70 cm for Herkol and Eigenheimer, respectively.
