Intumescência das nervuras da beldroega, uma moléstia de vírus

Vein swelling of the common purslane due to virus infection

A. S. Costa; Ana Maria B. Carvalho

SUMMARY

Plants of the common purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) showing vein swelling were collected at the Instituto Agronômico, Campinas, São Paulo. The symptoms shown by the affected plants resemble those induced by strains of the beet curly top virus on o number of host plants. Transmission experiments with four species of agallion leaf-hoppers showed that Agallia albidula Uhl. is a vector. The host range of the virus as determined by inoculations with viruliferous vectors has been restricted to the common purslane.

It is suggested that the virus responsible for the vein swelling of the common purslane is a mutant of one of the known strains of the beet curly top virus that occur in São Paulo.
