A spacing experiment with the species Euterpe edulis Mart. was carried out in the rain forest of the Vale do Ribeira region in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. In order to evaluate growth, several parameters were used: plant height, number of green leaves, length of the fourth leaf and girth at 130cm high. Maximum heart of palm yield was obtained in the 1.5 x 1.0 and 1.0 x 1.0m planting density.
