Stalk dimensions of twelve international varieties of ramie and its correlations with the fiber length and fineness

SUMMARY

The correlations between stalk dimensions and fiber characteristics of twelve ramie varieties were studied, regarding its diameter and length of stalks and length and fineness of fibers.

The varieties studied were Hakuhi-Ibgou, White Skin, Taiwan-Hakushi, Shalien n.° 1, Hsi-Ching-Ching-Hsin, Banmethout, Myasaki 112, E 47-1, Murakami, P. I. 87521, Kagisei, and Yilan n.° 1.

Negative correlations between the stalk diameter and the fiber fineness were found. For the most of the varieties the fineness of the fibers was higher as the stalks became longer.
