Peach rootstock study in São Paulo

A trial was started in Jundiaí, SP, in 1964, to study the behavior of four peach varieties: Talismã, Rei da Conserva, Ouromel and Campinas-1, grafted on respectively 20, 8, 9 and 9 peach rootstocks. The rootstocks were seedlings of the main commercial peach varieties cultivated in São Paulo and of several local peach selections. The results covering the period of 1967/71 did not show any significant difference of performance influenced by the rootstocks studied regarding the tree habit and productivity. So, growers must not depend upon obtaining Rei da Conserva as the only adequate peach rootstock available for São Paulo.
