Ad hoc review in Mathematics Fairs: a look at the authors’ mathematical background

Abstract

This study analyzes ad hoc assessment's contributions to the tutoring teacher's training participating in Mathematics Fairs, focusing on mathematics training. Therefore, we conducted considerations about the evaluation process in Mathematics Fairs and its implication in teaching practice. For this analysis, papers from the Elementary School - Final Years (EF-AF) and High School (EM) categories published in the Anais da XXXV Feira Catarinense held in 2019 were considered. A qualitative and interpretative evaluation was chosen to achieve the proposed objective, based on the feedback of the ad hoc evaluations and the face-to-face evaluation of the selected papers. For these evaluations to effectively contribute to teachers’ training participating in Mathematics Fairs, the results show the need for better monitoring of the teachers involved. Also, it is observed the need to modify the items evaluated to contemplate the mathematical and methodological aspects of the papers more emphatically.
