GNSS altimetry of precision applied to monitoring of coastal sedimentary dynamics of short term in regional scale

This paper presents methodology applied in altimetry by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) of precision in coastal areas located on Northern Coast of Rio Grande do Norte, Northeastern Brazil, based on calculation, modeling, and removal of Systematic Component (SC) of geoid model. Methods were implemented and evaluated by using the MAPGEO geoid model. The calculation of the SC was performed in Benchmarks (BM) located on study area by subtraction between gravimetric geoid heights obtained by geoid model, and geometric geoid heights obtained by GNSS positioning in BM. After modeling and removing SC by a quadratic polynomial surface model, SC calculated, with averaging -0.498 m, Standard Deviation (SD) 0.110m, and Mean Square Error (MSE) 0.509 m, now has zero mean, SD 0.065m, and MSE 0.062m. Conducted evaluations from control points outside the model showed that methodology provided decimeter accuracy for GNSS altimetry, proper to monitoring of high sediment dynamics in coastal environments, proven in the studied case.
