Evaluation of learning in higher education: the scientific production of the journal Estudos em Avaliação Educacional in question

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the scientific literature, in respect of the subject learning assessment in higher education, disseminated in the journal Estudos em Avaliação Educacional (EAE), in a period of 20 years, ranging from its inception in 1990 to 2010. Studies show that the EAE journal, edited by the Carlos Chagas Foundation, and the journal Avaliação: Revista da Avaliação da Educação Superior da Rede de Avaliação Institucional da Educação Superior (RAIES), are, in Brazil, basic references in what refers to the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of educational evaluation. This article, which is inserted into the field of studies on the State of the Art, identifies the predominant thematic trends in the magazine in question, in respect to the evaluation of learning in higher education. Among the themes identified were: entrance examination to the University, assessment practices, theories of evaluation, evaluation of learning, cultural diversity. Of all these issues, the University entrance exam had the largest number of articles, presenting highly instrumental theoretical discussions, closely linked to services provided by the foundation responsible for the journal.
